Gioachino Rossini’s La Cenerentola is one of the most beloved operas in the repertoire, famous for its dazzling vocal acrobatics, sparkling ensembles, and beautiful bel canto melodies. Based on the Cinderella story, it takes a fresh approach to the familiar fairy tale: instead of a wicked stepmother, Cinderella is oppressed by her vain and selfish stepfather, Don Magnifico, and there is no fairy godmother. Even the famous lost slipper is replaced by a bracelet, which Cinderella exchanges with the Prince as a token of recognition. The result is a charming, witty, and heartwarming comedy that celebrates kindness, goodness, and forgiveness.
Exeter Opera Group is delighted to present this masterpiece with an outstanding cast of soloists. The title role of Angelina (Cenerentola) is performed by the bel canto mezzo-soprano Iryna Ilnytska, whose vocal agility and expressive artistry bring Rossini’s heroine to life. She is joined by a wonderful ensemble of talented singers, making this production a truly memorable celebration of Rossini’s glorious music.
