The Gateway’s first Cider Bash has become the talk of the town.

The Gateway Theatre hosted its first major festival since 2019 last weekend, showcasing a lineup of eight musical acts.

Announced last December amid strong demand, The Gateway Theatre’s Cider Bash festival took over the venue over the weekend, featuring a range of musical acts across two days. Running from Friday, the event was a popular highlight of the Spring Season, offering cider and food vendors alongside high-quality live music.

Local indie rock band Leonian Dream opened the festival with a set of original material ahead of their second studio album, due for release in 2027. They were followed by folk artist Stompin’ Dave, with South West reggae group The Barefoot Bandit closing the show as headliners.

Saturday saw five additional acts take to the stage, including Seaton-based bands Plain Sailing and Jurassic Crocks, BBC Introducing’s Absent Minds from North Devon, Echo Town, and West Country favourites The Skimmity Hitchers, who returned to Seaton for the first time in 10 years since last appearing on the stage.

The event was supported by the launch of Jeremy Clarkson’s Hawkstone at the theatre bar for the duration of the festival and beyond, alongside drinks from Branscombe Brewery and Sandford Orchards.

Without the support of the local community, the event would not have been possible, including backing from sponsors Lyme Bay Law, DH Team Ltd, Seaton Chamber, and Frydays.

A spokesperson for The Gateway Theatre said: “We’re delighted to be launching Seaton’s Cider Bash and especially excited to be working with Hawkstone to help bring something fresh and exciting to Seaton. This is all about great music, a fantastic atmosphere and giving people a brilliant reason to enjoy a night out in the town.”

All profits from the event will be reinvested into the community venue. The Gateway Theatre is a registered charity, meaning every penny raised through its events goes directly back into the theatre. This support helps us continue providing entertainment and a vital community space in Seaton.
